About Me & Tips

Hi!

I am and will always be a home cook. You don't need a Chef's degree to be able to cook mouth watering meals. All I have learnt is from my mother (who hands down could beat even the greatest Chef's with her cooking), from constantly experimenting with different recipes in the kitchen and always watching the cooking channel on television.

As much as I have learnt over the years, I am always surprised about how much I still don't know. It goes to show how much technique and knowledge goes into cooking. Trust me however, the knowledge and experience gained is priceless. This is something you will carry with you always and pass onto your children, and they will do the same with their children and so on.

The 10 secrets I believe to becoming a great cook are:

  1. Always taste for flavour!
  2. Learn from others cooking.
  3. Don't be afraid to experiment and learn new things.
  4. Know your herbs and spices. Have a spice cupboard or draw with everything in it (refer to my herb and spice page). Definitely always comes in handy.
  5. Read multiple recipe variations for the one dish.
  6. Keep yourself learning by reading cook books, surfing the web and watching plenty of cooking shows.
  7. Don't be afraid of making mistakes! I've definitely made a few.
  8. Take criticism good or bad and learn from it.
  9. Eat at restaurants/cafes to gain an understanding of different cuisines and cultures.
  10. Try EVERYTHING even if you think you might not like it!

Lastly in a section all on its own. Have your own cookbook where you can log all your recipes to be passed down to your children or given to a friend.

I created this blog so I could share with you my experiences and knowledge. It is there for your disposal. Feel free to comment on any recipe, ask me any questions and leave your opinions. If your are looking for a specific dish, ask and I will find a great one for you. I learn from you as much as you learn from me.
